The AI Shift: 3-Step AI Opportunity Assessment

Here’s an assessment you can use to determine where you stand, and where to start.

AI Opportunity Scorecard: Executive Assessment Worksheet

Instructions

Rate each factor on a scale from 1 (Low) to 5 (High) based on your business’s readiness and potential impact. Use the final score to prioritize AI initiatives.

Step 1: Assess Business Impact

Rate each factor on a scale of 1-5

Revenue Impact: Can AI unlock new revenue streams, enhance pricing, improve customer engagement, or drive market expansion?
Score: ___ (1-5)

Efficiency Gains: Can AI significantly reduce costs, streamline operations, or enhance speed/accuracy?
Score: ___ (1-5)

➡ Total Business Impact Score = (Revenue Impact + Efficiency Gains) / 2
Formula: ( ___ + ___ ) / 2 = ____

Step 2: Assess Execution Readiness

Rate each factor on a scale of 1-5

1) Leadership Buy-In: Is your leadership team aligned on AI priorities?
Score: ___ (1-5)

2) Data & Infrastructure: Does the company have the right data, tech stack, and AI capabilities?
Score: ___ (1-5)

3) Talent & Execution Ability: Does the team have the right AI skills or ability to adopt AI-driven workflows?
Score: ___ (1-5)

➡ Execution Readiness Score = (Leadership Buy-In + Data & Infrastructure + Talent & Execution Ability) / 3
Formula: ( ___ + ___ + ___ ) / 3 = ___

Step 3: Calculate AI Opportunity Score

Multiply the Total Business Impact Score by the Execution Readiness Score

AI Opportunity Score = Business Impact Score × Execution Readiness Score
Formula: ( ___ ) × ( ___ ) = **__**_

Score Interpretation

  • 20-25: High-priority AI opportunity; should be fast-tracked. Go all in now.
  • 15-19: Strong potential; invest in execution readiness over next 6 to 12 months while experimenting with potential AI verticals
  • 10-14: Moderate opportunity
    • requires significant investment in readiness or
    • need to rethink brand new business model / verticals
  • Below 10: Not an immediate priority or potential threat;
    • focus on foundational improvements or
    • Build immediate plan to avoid disruption

Next Steps

  • Identify top-scoring opportunities and align them with strategic goals.
  • For lower execution readiness scores, identify what needs work, or whether you need to begin preparing for an imminent disruption theat
  • Reassess AI opportunities every 6-12 months as capabilities evolve.
