Earlier in my career, there would be times when the results that I saw a member of my team deliver, be very different than what I was expecting.
I would often think the reason behind this was that perhaps that the task was challenging, or maybe I can just do it better. I was so wrong.
It wasn’t until I started to see things from the viewpoint of my team, that what I was expecting from them was something that only I understood in my head, but did a really terrible job of explaining the details and providing the right tools and skills to succeed.
Most of the times when a football team has a bad season, the coach gets fired. Similarly, if a team misses targets in business, the onus rests with the leader because the expectations need to be clearly communicated while providing the right motivation, tools, and guidance along the way.
If this is something you’ve seen in your career either as a leader, a team member, or even as a member of a sports team, then you’re going to love this week’s podcast.
“Similar to sports, I’ve realized that bad things are going to happen in business. The folks that survive are the ones that aren’t afraid to get up and keep going, and persevere.” – Bob Gibson
Bob Gibson is currently the Chief Revenue Officer at Jolt, an operations execution software available on smartphones and tablets that helps restaurants and other desk-less businesses achieve team accountability, digital food safety compliance, and boost employee performance.
As the CRO, Bob is focused on increasing brand awareness, enterprise sales, and optimizing a growth strategy to scale business to global operations. Prior to Jolt, he spent the majority of his career at Oracle. During his time at Oracle (MICROS) Bob led numerous strategic initiatives including rebuilding the sales and operations teams to focus on mid-market and large tier customers and was one of the prominent.
Bob has also been coaching Junior football for nearly 18 years, and will be back at Glen Ellyn Football in Utah for another season! As an executive and coach, one thing that Bob believes to the x-factor is preparation, and that is something that I have seen him portray during meetings, key strategy sessions, or webinars.
You can follow him on LinkedIn or visit his company website at jolt.com. I have personally learned a lot from Bob and know that you can take something back with you from this episode to your day today.
